How does AG "work" in middle school? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Webmaster

In middle school in Wake County, students are no longer "pulled out" for a dedicated AG class; instead, they receive gifted services through the regular education class in the form of differentiated activities and lessons.  The AG Resource Teacher provides support, training, and collaboration with the core teachers based on the student's designated level of need on the Differentiated Education Plan (DEP - Moderate, Strong, or Very Strong need).  Beyond 6th grade, students are also placed into specific core classes based on their ability and academic performance.

Some of the differentiation strategies utilized by your child's teachers are:

  • Curriculum Compacting
  • Independent Projects
  • Tiered Assignments
  • Flexible Grouping
  • Learning or Interest Centers
  • Varying Questions
  • Learning Contracts
  • Cluster Grouping
