East Cary Middle School once again will have Student Council. Student Council serves as the liaison between the student body and the administration, for students to express their opinions and participate in the management of the school enterprises. The student government representatives recognize this responsibility and work diligently to represent the student body. The East Cary Middle School Student Council, which meets at least once a month, (probably every other week at the beginning of the school year) promotes leadership, initiative, and self-motivation among its members. Students that are tracked out are not required to attend meeting but are always welcome if they are available.

The school elects a president, vice-president, secretary/recorder and treasurer to lead activities with the administrators, teachers, and counselors working with their grade level. The president must be a 7th or 8th grade student. At least one council member will serve as a Student Ambassador and will work with the Counseling Office to assist students new to East Cary Middle School.

Each fall, students who want to be involved in the student council must be elected by their homeroom class. A representative and an alternate are elected in each homeroom to serve on the SGA. The student body elects a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer to coordinate work in the coming year. It is the duty of the SGA representatives to bring to attention concerns and suggestions of their classmates and to inform their homerooms of the action of the council.

Members of the East Cary Middle School Student Government must maintain high standards of scholarship and citizenship. Any student who receives an “F” in any of his or her classes on a report card during the year will face a possible suspension from the Council.  Any student who receives a disciplinary referral during the year will also face a possible suspension from the Council. A student may be expelled from the Council for the remainder of the year for serious and/or frequent problems with grades or behavior.
