Messages from the Principal
This is such an exciting time of the year in “school life.” The students are comfortable with classes and learning is in full swing! Data walls document students’ growth and progress on curriculum objectives! Teachers are talking about various strategies to continue to promote student success in weekly Professional Learning Team meetings every Wednesday. As I visit classrooms, it is obvious there is continued excellence in classrooms every day! I applaud our students who have participated in our athletic program. I have been very proud of their sportsmanlike conduct and hope that they have learned valuable lifelong lessons on and off the playing field. To our eighth graders, I wish to thank you for your contributions to our team and hope you will continue to enjoy sharing your athletic talents in high school! Our drama and chorus classes have been working diligently to prepare for their performance of “Santa’s Holiday Hoedown”. It’s going to be a spectacular show that you won’t want to miss! Showtime is November 24 at 7:00. Students in our Spanish classes will share and there will be artwork displayed to showcase the many talents of our young people. There will be a band concert the night before, November 23, at 7:00. Students in the ECMS Jazz Band and the ECTC Panners will represent East Cary at the Carolina Christmas Show on Saturday, Nov. 21. I will love going to this event even more this year! East Cary students continue to learn and grow daily! Take the time to ask your child specific questions about their day. This is an interesting and challenging time for them, but they will always need your support and care! As I end my time at East Cary, again I would like to thank you for your continuous support as we have worked together to build a successful learning environment for our young people. I’m excited about my future just knowing I’ve played a small part in helping these students become “tomorrow’s leaders”. Kind regards, Dixie Frazier
August 21, 2009 Information is going home with all students regarding Night on the Town-East Cary Style on Friday, August 21, 2009. The information contains the sessions parents will be able to attend to learn about important aspects of East Cary this year! Some sessions are grade level specific and will only be offered one time. Please make sure you review the schedule. You can also check out the information on our school’s website. If you’d like to eat dinner here, please return the form so the PTA will know how much pizza to order. For $3.00, you will get one slice of Roma’s pizza and a bottle of water. For those of you who have never had Roma’s pizza, you’re in for a treat. It’s delicious! I hope you’ve had the opportunity to review the fundraiser materials your child has brought home. Our fundraiser is only going to last 2 weeks. The teachers and I appreciate all the support our PTA gives and this fundraiser makes so many of the activities and funding possible. Thank you! East Cary Middle was chosen as the school site for reporters to visit to showcase the excellent work the ECMS staff is doing in implementing Professional Learning Teams. You may have caught some of the footage on one of the local channels. The Wednesday time does allow teachers the opportunity to discuss various instructional strategies and come up with innovative, engaging ways to engage our students in learning. Again, we appreciate your understanding of this valuable planning/working time for the teachers! As always, thank you for your support of our efforts at ECMS to “Educate Tomorrow’s Leaders”. Kind regards, Dixie Frazier
I continue to be so proud of our students every day. They are rising to the challenge of moving around campus to be on time for their classes and are working hard to achieve excellence in their studies. I am convinced this year is going to be very rewarding for our students! One of the things I desperately want to maintain is optimal learning time for our students. To do this, I ask that all parents come to the front office if you ever need to get your child out of school early for any reason. The front office personnel will call your child to come to the front and I ask for security purposes that you sign your child out using our computerized system. Thank you so much for your cooperation. It is imperative that I know at all times if there are “extra” people on campus for the privacy and security of all programs. Please mark Sept. 1 on your calendar for the second annual Night on the Town- East Cary Style. We’ll begin at 5:30pm with dinner. Details will come home soon regarding dinner plans! There will be a brief PTA meeting at 6:40pm and then parents will have the opportunity to “learn” by attending 3 sessions on topics pertinent to our school. You will not want to miss this informative night! Many thanks to so many of you who have sent notes of encouragement and understanding during this budgetary crisis. Please know that we are continuously working to make sure the best possible resources and people are here to meet your child’s learning needs. Kind regards, Dixie Frazier
July 28, 2009 The new school year is off to a great start with Tracks 1, 3, and 4. We currently have 825 students enrolled and are enjoying our increased size. There are so many more students to get to know! With the budget cuts all schools are experiencing, our class sizes have increased. Please know that we are continuously seeking means to lower class size whenever possible. Your understanding and support of all of your child’s teachers will be greatly appreciated this year more than ever! The administrators have enjoyed talking with all students to share expectations for a great and successful school year. We all have high expectations for our East Cary students! We want all of our students to feel safe and prepared for the future. Mr. Chisnall, Mrs. Martin, and I will do everything we can possibly do to ensure a productive learning environment for our students at East Cary. Our students’ performance on last year’s end of grade tests was extremely impressive. Our students demonstrated high growth overall as a school. Our final percentage of students scoring Level III or IV was 87.9%. Our school also met AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress). Please review the concepts our teachers are discussing at the weekly Professional Learning Team meetings, which are held on Wednesdays once students are dismissed. This time is proving already to be productive for our teachers to look at data and discuss teaching strategies to best meet the needs of our students. Please mark your calendars for our second annual Night on the Town-East Cary Style, which will occur Sept. 1 from 5:30-8:00. Details are being ironed out now and you will receive detailed information for this event soon. Many thanks to the East Cary PTA for our new picnic tables. We have 10 picnic tables that our students are enjoying during their lunch time. We appreciate your support so much! Kind regards, Dixie Frazier
Good morning. We’re pretty much into our routines now with classes, lunch, and meeting new people. Everyone seems to be adjusting very well. We’ve heard that our teachers are getting some productive work done during their Professional Learning community meetings on Wednesdays! Team leaders, please remember to get your meeting notes to Ms. Doepner so she can post them on our school website. Whitney, have you noticed that the teachers at East Cary are always happy? Yes, I have noticed that. What do you think is going on? Well, I think it has something to do with FISH for some reason. FISH! Are you kidding? Who knows more about what’s going on in the school than Ms. Philbrook, our secretary? You’re right! Let’s ask her . . . Hey, here she is right now! I actually think I see some flying fish around her, Ms. Philbrook, what’s this all about? Ms. Philbrook explains . . . Thanks for letting us know what the fish philosophy is all about. We’ll be sure to notice our happy teachers today and pick up on their positive attitudes. Now on to the announcements . . . for those interested in FBLA, there will be a short Meet and Greet meeting tomorrow from 2:30pm-3:00pm. I can’t wait for the other clubs to begin also! Please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance . . . Have a GREAT day! July 14, 2009 Good morning, today is Tuesday, July 14th. We’re in for another exciting day at East Cary! Remember that tonight is Meet the Teacher night. Your parents need to be here promptly at 6:00pm to walk your schedule and spend 15 minutes with each of your teachers. Tell them if they want to see Mrs. Walker, the AG teacher, or the counselors - they may come early at 5:30pm. Also, Mr. Chisnall will be in the media center at 5:30pm to help your parents sign up for online access for your grades. It’s a special day for Battle of the Books club. Plan to meet in the media center this afternoon at 2:30 to begin the fun of reading! FBLA Meet and Greet will be this Friday from 2:25pm-3:00pm. See Ms. Doepner if you have questions about FBLA in RM 318. Thanks to all of you for keeping those cell phones at home. It’s important that we all work together to learn the most we can at East Cary every day. Our new bell schedule started yesterday. There will be a bell that sounds a little different at 2:22pm / this means >>> Go to your locker. Then another bell will ring at 2:25pm for dismissal. Let’s try this again today. We don’t want folks getting mixed up by trying to leave on the wrong bell. Thanks. If you ever have any announcements, please send them to Mrs. Harris in the media center by 7:00am. We’ll get your announcements made for you. Please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance . . . Have a great day!
We’ve made it to Friday, East Cary! What a great first four days of school. I think you’ve all handled the transition to a new year extremely well! Now that you’ve gotten used to the routine, we need to change it just a little bit to hopefully help fix a few glitches. Instead of having 10 minutes in homeroom, we will have 5, beginning Monday. We will then ring a bell at 2:22 so that all students may return to their lockers before dismissal at 2:25. There will be no time for conversations or walking slow once the 2:22 bell rings. You will have just enough time to get your things from your locker before it’s time to leave campus. We hope that these changes will help. Meet the Teacher night will be held Tuesday, July 14, from 6:00-7:45 pm. Your parents will have the opportunity to “walk your schedule” and visit all of your classes. Teachers will spend time sharing expectations for their class with your parents. The first meeting of the Battle of the Books team will be Tuesday, July 14, from 2:30-3:30. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Harris in the media center, Ms. Bass in room 208, or Mrs. McConnel in Room 319. Students interested in FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America, will have the opportunity July 17, from 2:25-3:00. If you have questions about FBLA, please see ms. Doepner in Room 318 or Mrs. Hageter in the media center. Make it a great day! Now, please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance…..
July 9, 2009 Good morning, East Cary! I really enjoyed our brief time together in the gym yesterday to go over a few expectations. I am convinced that this year is going to be a great one for all of you! You are all talented and smart and I know you will rise to the challenges of your middle school year. Remember, all of your teachers and administrators are here to help you in any way and cheer you on to success! As expected, most of you were the most interested in the information shared regarding electronic devices, particularly cell phones. Remember - if you feel you absolutely MUST bring your cell phone to school, it should be kept in your locker throughout the day. It should only be used to communicate during club activities or sports activities after school. Since none of these have begun yet, there’s really no reason for you to chance bringing your cell phone to school. If you have more questions, please ask your teachers or you may certainly come to me. You will soon hear about the opportunity to sign up for clubs from various sponsors. It is important that you pay close attention to these announcements, as there will not be a sign up process like we’ve had the past 2 years. This year you will sign up for clubs individually. There will be reminders on the TV announcements that run continuously all day also. Have a great day, East Cary! Now, please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance…..
July 8, 2009 Today is our first Wednesday Early Dismissal day. All students will be dismissed at 1:25. You will have all of your classes today. They will just be shorter. Today you will also meet with Mrs. Martin and me in the gym to go over expectations for a successful year at East Cary. After your 6th period class, all students should return to their homeroom. Track 1 will then come to the gym from 12:25-12:55. Track 3 will meet from 12:55-1:25 in the gym. The other 30 minutes you’re not in the gym, you will view a Positive Behavior Support video in your homeroom that was produced by students and teachers at East Cary last year. Yesterday went very smoothly with the exception of a large number of students who did not know which bus to ride when the dismissal bell rang. If you do not know which bus to ride, please ask your teacher for permission to come to the front office so that your question can be answered prior to 1:25 today. Department chairs: during your planning period today, please stop by Mrs. Frazier’s office for important information regarding our PLC’s this afternoon. Now, please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance….. Have a GREAT Wednesday!
Good morning! Welcome to a great year of learning at East Cary. I am your principal, Mrs. Frazier. This year we have 2 assistant principals, Mr. Chisnall and Mrs. Martin. Mrs. Martin’s office is in the 800 building and Mr. Chisnall’s office has moved to the 300 building. My office is still located in the 400 building. I would like to share a few expectations that I have for each of you for this school year. First of all, I want you to enjoy coming to school to learn every day. You will learn more if you take your classes seriously and come prepared every day. You will also learn more if your attitude is a positive one. This year, teachers and administrators will enjoy passing out tickets to reinforce positive behaviors. We will also write Positive Office Referrals that will be shared with your parents for outstanding character and actions. There are several things to remember: Your agenda needs to be with you at all times. When you leave your assigned area, you must have your agenda signed by your teacher and you should show your agenda to the teacher you are visiting. Teachers will ask you to return to your classroom without a signed agenda. If you lose your agenda, you must pay $6.00 to have it replaced, so take good care of the first free one each of you will receive today or tomorrow. There will be many ways for you to showcase your leadership abilities at East Cary this year. Many of you will participate in sports or clubs and will experience various ways to let your strengths shine. I look forward to sharing many of these times with you. Each day you will be in your homeroom from 7:30am-7:40am for announcements and daily reminders. The Pledge of Allegiance will also be recited during this time. So, with that said, I hope you enjoy your first day of the 2009-2010 school year. I look forward to getting to know our new students and anticipate great things from all of you at East Cary. Now, please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance…. Thank you and have a great day! |
